    Love the channel! Great as always. Your timing is impeccable for this garlic update. Here on the east coast NB my scapes are ready to be harvested. Some are headed to a family friend for Pesto. Cheers from NB PS: due to the abnormally warm winter and early dry spring my garlic is 2 weeks ahead of any other year.

    So I can use straw mulch on top of the seeds to help keep moisture in instead of cardboard/wood???? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I was gonna try that for my next carrot run too. Question: Can this be done with most seeds? I put straw mulch in all my containers, so it’s be one less step after sprouting. Also, I tried square foot method for carrots… terrible idea for a newb who wants as many carrots as possible. Definitely doing rows then thinning next time ❤❤❤

    I started garlic from the grocery store in spring(March of this year 2024) by putting the Bulbs in water to grow it's roots, After which I planted them in my raised bed garden. It is June 24, 2024 now and they are growing slowly. This is an experiment for me as I have never grown garlic before. Maybe planted in spring was not good as I hear you planted in fall. Will I need to over winter them to reach maturity?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms День тому

      Hi Angely, it will all depend on what type you have. Softneck garlic can most definitely be planted in the spring and harvested the same year. Hardneck garlic must be planted in the fall, essentially right after its harvested. Planting it now 8 moths later likely won't result in a usable crop of its the hardneck type unfortunately.

    Free is for me! I’m 2 months into gardening and trying to absorb everything I can to have fun and a good harvest. 11 cucumbers picked and some green onion tops harvested is all so far, but surprisingly some of my plants are over 3’ and one is 5’ and outgrew the trellis I built 😂😂😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤

      Right on! It may seem daunting at first, but you got this! Learn from each crop, each planting, apply it, and move on! 🙂

      @@TheRipeTomatoFarms Thank you for taking the time to share your passion. It is both contagious and gives green horns like myself all the help we need to have the confidence to try. Owe ya some canned goods if our paths ever cross. Much success to you.

    Let me guess, the scapes are flowers/seed pops and you want all the energy to go to the bulb.

    I harvested my scapes two weeks ago. Today I pulled three to check on bulb size and they are way too small. What should I do? I didn't fertilize except for using a good compost.

      Likely too early for garlic so really there's nothing to do. Garlic is harvested when the foliage begins to fail and honestly the bulbs put on 95% of their size during the last 10% of their life cycle.
